Six Steps for a Successful Dec. 31st Email Appeal
Follow my six steps for a successful Dec. 31st email appeal to raise funds now! It is not too late to bring in significant end of year funds and to set up your next year as the year of being fully funded! Here is a fact that might get your attention…
22% of all online gifts to charities come the last two days of the year!
Six Key Steps to a Successful December 31st Fund Raising Blitz – Follow these key steps and you too can raise significant funds the last day of the year.
Step One: Determine the “Ask.” Never ever make it about simply making budget. If indeed you desperately need to make budget at least tell members why making budget is important. Your budget funds missions and ministries from your community to literally around the world. So, make the appeal, appealing! One more thing, don’t ask for a bunch of things. The best “ask” is a single ask.
Basically your “ask” needs to encompass the following elements…
Crisis – I want my donors to know about…
Need – We can help by…
Ask – Your gift NOW will help us meet this need!
Step Two: Write a compelling subject line. Most emails never get opened. To even have a chance of collecting last day dollars you must have a subject line that is compelling or interesting enough for members to open it. Try these…
- Your Response Will Impact Thousands!
- Make a Difference Right Now!
- Help Us Change the World!
- End the Year Right With Us!
- Have You Got a Minute? I know that seems odd but try it and your open rate will soar!
Step Three: Write a short text. If you are a pastor go back and read where I said SHORT! Why is short important? Most of your email sends will be read on a smartphone or tablet. So be concise! Think two to three paragraphs of only two to three sentences.
Step Four: Embed links to your online giving page. Notice I said links. The best email appeals have more than one place for you to click that will send you to a giving portal.
Step Five: Hit the send button at 2 PM to 7 PM! Studies show that this window is the best time to send that December 31st appeal.
Step Six: Send a thank you note to all who contributed. As soon as possible send a brief thank you note to everyone that responded. Not only does a thank you show gratitude but it is a non-threatening reminder of the importance of giving.
Here is a real life sample that is going out today! The following note is for a client that wanted to make their end of year appeal about a missions offering.
Subject line: Your response in the next few hours will change 2014
Dear Phillips family,
Right now you can make a difference in how 2014 will start for needy people in the Philippines and Ghana! Your last of the year gift will help us fully fund our dream of raising $50K for needed mission work in typhoon ravished areas of the Philippines and poor people in Ghana.
It is easy to give you can simply click this link http://www.phillipstemple.org/index.php?p=1_10
Under Donation Information type in the amount you feel led to give. In the box entitled SELECT find the drop down menu and click, December Missions Offering. 100% of what we receive from your online gift will go to these two worthy causes.
My prayer is that this afternoon we will raise an additional $5,000 with this email! How in the world can we do that? Easy! Here is the math…
- We need 5 people to donate $100 now and that will be seed faith amounting to $500!
- We need 25 people to donate $50 now and that will be seed faith amounting to $1,250!
- We need 50 people to donate $25 now and that will be seed faith amounting to $1,250!
- If another 200 gave $10 that would amount to $2,000 and we would have our $5,000!
Michelle and I will lead the way with the first $100! I am going to click our giving link now at http://www.phillipstemple.org/index.php?p=1_10 Join me in clicking and giving to change 2014!
Thanks for your generosity!
PS. God expects us to be good stewards of our money. This is your last chance to make an end of year donation that can be used as tax write off come April 15, so give now at http://www.phillipstemple.org/index.php?p=1_10
